Patricia Johnston
Patricia Johnston was born in England and raised in Zimbabwe. Her home has been in British Columbia for over 35 years and the BC coastline and mountains have been her repeated subjects. Her career has seen shifts in her palette and technique, but there is continuity in the feeling she infuses into her paintings. Distinctively, her works are created with layers of fine glazes that contribute to her treatment of atmosphere, light and colour. Skies bursting with light remind a viewer of the clarity of vision necessary for such an effect. Her paintings are remarkable for the poignancy and beauty of a moment captured in a unique and compelling way. This quality has led to her work being held in over fifty corporate collections and in over 800 private collections in Canada, the USA, Japan, Great Britain and Bermuda, and the West Indies. She is represented by: the Winsor Gallery, Vancouver; the West End Gallery, Victoria and Edmonton; the Fountainhead Gallery, Seattle; and the James Baird Gallery, Pouch Cove, Newfoundland.
